Brief summary of main duties
The successful candidate will be expected to develop a competitive research programme attracting external funding on the systematics of one or more groups of Hemiptera: Sternorrhyncha, with a view to developing a programme of research in agricultural entomology. Applicants with experience in the systematics of two or more groups of Sternorrhyncha will be particularly welcome, as will applicants interested also in exploiting e-technology to promote data exchange. Publication of original and peer-reviewed research is an expectation as is active engagement with Collections Management in the development of the appropriate parts of the national collection of insects.

Academic Qualifications
· PhD in systematics or related area
Knowledge and Experience
· Experience of carrying out insect systematics of international significance
Experience of collections-based research on one or more groups of Sternorrhyncha
· Familiarity with modern techniques and analytical methods in systematics
· Experience in agricultural entomology/plant protection or the capacity to develop this area
· Familiarity with the scope and principles of e-taxonomy and an interest in its promotion
· Experience of raising external funds for research
· Experience of undertaking fieldwork
Skills and competencies
· Ability to work as a collaborator
· Sound presentation skills.
List of main tasks and responsibilities
· Develop and run a research programme on the systematics of Sternorrhyncha
· Promote research in systematics for agricultural entomology, especially natural pest control
· Publish original research in peer-reviewed journals and online platforms
· Undertake fieldwork for research programme as appropriate
· Obtain external funding to support research programme
· Build a research group

Hours: 41-hour week. Saturday, Sunday and public holidays will be included in weekly hours
