TENTH meeting of the "Insect Conservation" Special Interest Group
"THE IMPACT OF CLIMATE CHANGE ON INSECT CONSERVATION"
Thursday, 12th May, 2011
Start time: 10.00 am
Conference Centre, Rothamsted Research, Harpenden, Hertfordshire
Climate change is widely regarded as one of the most serious threats to global biodiversity. There is already good evidence that insects are responding through changes in range and phenology. Species that have limited powers of dispersal and that specialize on habitats which have become fragmented will perhaps be the most vulnerable. This meeting will explore how a changing climate will impact upon insect conservation and what measures might be taken to mitigate adverse effects on insect species and communities.
This meeting will be an opportunity for anyone involved in insect conservation and/or climate change (e.g. as researcher, conservation professional, amateur recorder, site manager) to hear talks on a wide range of current projects. There will be ample time over lunch and during refreshment breaks to discuss issues with other participants.
The meeting will be held at Rothamsted Research, Harpenden, Hertfordshire. Rothamsted is conveniently placed near the M1, A1 and M25 and is a 10-minute walk from Harpenden railway station which is on the line from London-Kings Cross to Bedford. Directions on how to get to Rothamsted can be viewed on: http://www.rothamsted.bbsrc.ac.uk/corporate/Location.html
Registration/attendance at this meeting will be free. Tea/coffee/biscuits will be provided in refreshment breaks and a sandwich/buffet lunch will be available all for £10.00, to be booked in advance. Please see registration form on the website, send to Kirsty Whiteford at RES The Mansion House, Chiswell Green Lane, St Albans, AL2 3NS, or kirsty at royensoc.co.uk. http://www.royensoc.co.uk/meeting/20110512_conservation.htm
Call for offers of papers / posters:
DEADLINE: 21 February 2011
The meeting will comprise a programme of short papers/presentations, each lasting 30 minutes including discussion. Poster presentations are also welcomed. The SIG is intended to be a relatively informal forum for the exchange of information and ideas on insect conservation issues. In particular, it is hoped that post-graduate students will want to present their work.
If you would like to offer a paper or poster contribution on this theme, please contact the SIG organiser:
