HELICONIUS -- heliconiine and ithomiine butterfly research

About HELICONIUS

This list is devoted to research by the international consortium of biologists working on butterflies in the nymphalid subfamilies Heliconiinae and Ithomiinae.

The main topics covered will be evolution, ecology, behaviour, genetics, systematics, and genomics. A particular interest at present is in Heliconius genomics as applied to the evo-devo of colour pattern switch genes.

See also the Heliconius genomics pages at http://www.heliconius.org/ and the Heliconius and Ithomiinae general information pages at http://www.ucl.ac.uk/taxome/jim. For Ithomiinae systematics, see http://www.flmnh.ufl.edu/butterflies/neotropica/ithomia.html.

Related lists include the Lepidoptera genomics listserver LEPGEN-L (contact Marian Goldsmith on mki101 at uri.edu), and the Lepidoptera Phylogeny list LepTree-L.

Another useful list is the Tropical Andean Butterfly Diversity list. This list consists of scientists interested in butterfly biodiversity in Venezuela, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru and Bolivia. See: TABD List and the group website Tropical Andean Butterfly Diversity Project.
