Curator for Lepidoptera 

The Zoologisches Forschungsmuseum Alexander Koenig (ZFMK) in Bonn (http://www.zfmk.de), Germany, seeks to fill the position of a curator for Lepidoptera. The position is available by May 2014. Potential candidates will hold a PhD in zoology or related areas, have their research focus on systematics and biodiversity of Lepidoptera, and present a substantial publication record in taxonomic, phylogenetic and other biosystematic research. The candidate is expected to work in these fields from a sound theoretical basis and be able to apply an array of appropriate modern methods. He/she should be able to combine collection-based work with field work, phylogenetic, biogeographic, and/or ecological approaches, and/or population genetics. 

The candidate is also expected to integrate into ongoing research projects at the ZFMK and teaching programmes in the University of Bonn and to be successful in raising external funds. 
The successful candidate will be active in research projects and will be responsible as a curator for caring, managing and further increasing and developing the substantial, internationally important Lepidoptera collections in the ZFMK. He/she will also be involved in the self-administration of the institute and in collaborations with citizen scientists. The candidate is also expected to demonstrate commitment to community engagement in his/her field of research. 


The successful candidate will be employed for an initial period up to three years according to German law, after which he/she will obtain tenure depending on his/her performance. Salary corresponds to grade TV-L E 13 in the German Public Service scheme, a raise of salary after three years to the TV-L E 14 depends also on his/her performance. 

The ZFMK is a fellow institute of the Leibniz Association and works in close cooperation with the University of Bonn. It comprises internationally important scientific collections, libraries, electron microscopy, histological and molecular laboratories. Bonn is an attractive university town, widely recognized for its high quality of life, lively culture and arts scene, easy access to natural areas paired with close proximity to large cities like Cologne and Düsseldorf. Costs of living are moderate, and public transport or bicycle paths are easy transportation options.
