Workshop on Lepidoptera Research in the Afro-tropical region

18-21 November 2011;    Field trip 21-25 November 2011

 

Organised by the Butterfly Conservation Society, Ghana in collaboration
with Societas Europea Lepidopterologica. The event is also supported by
the Lepidopterists' Society of Africa

 

Programmes: Workshop: (16)-18-21 November 2011.

Excursion and collecting trip: 21-25 November 2011.

 

Day 00-0. (16-17th November) Arrival in Accra.

Day 1. (18th November) Travel to Hans Cottage Botel (Central Region),
opening, informal discussion in the evening.

Day 2. (19th November) Morning: Lectures: Taxonomy, fauna research and
DNA studies. Afternoon: field trip to "The Forest, conservation and
ecotourism site" Evening (optional): Moth trapping in "The Forest"

Day 3. (20th November) Morning: Lectures: Ecological studies and
conservation. Afternoon: visiting Kakum Canopy Walkway. Evening
(optional): Moth trapping on the Canopy Walkway. It is an exceptional
occasion to trap 30 metres above the ground!

Day 4. (21st November) Closure of workshop, travel to Accra. Day 1 of
Field trip to Kakum National Park.

Day 5-9 Field excursion to Kakum National Park and Assin Attandanso
Resource Reserve.

Early bird registration (until 15th of July 2011): 300 euro/person that
includes transfer from Accra to Hans Cottage Botel and back,
accommodation for three nights + all meals during the workshop. It also
includes snacks and coffee (tea) during breaks.

Late registration (after 15th of July 2011): 450 euro/person.

The registration fee does not include transfer from and to the airport
to the accommodation in Accra, non-alcoholic and alcoholic beverages,
tips etc.

The participation in the field trip-excursion is on daily basis,
participants should calculate with a 150 euro/day cost that includes
accommodation, meals, transport to and from the field, contribution in
the use of equipment (generators etc.) and research permit. Collecting
of butterfly and moth specimens are allowed on the research permit of
the Butterfly Conservation Society, Ghana. Identification of specimens
should be sent back to BCGHANA for the inclusion of the research report.
BCGHANA will collaborate in the preparation of subsequent publications,
which should be acknowledged to BCGHANA and the Wildlife Division of
Forestry Commission, Ghana

 

The presentations of the workshop are planned to be published in a
supplement issue of the Metamorphosis. Journal of the Lepidopterists'
Society of Africa.
